Hydrogen fueling station opens in Norway with Hydrogenics electrolyzers

The city of Oslo inaugurated a hydrogen fueling station which uses two Hydrogenics HySTAT™ electrolyzers to convert renewable electricity to hydrogen fuel.
Funding for the project came from Ruters, a public transport company, as well as from the European CHIC programme and additional national funding.
 
The construction of the station was awarded to Air Liquide, who will operate and maintain the site for five years. Hydrogenics supplied two HySTAT™ 60 electrolyzers that produce hydrogen fuel from water and electricity. The station will produce up to 260 kg of hydrogen per day, which will be used to fuel five Van Hool buses operating on a normal transit line from Roseholm to the Royal Palace. It is anticipated that the 13 meter-long buses will run between 400,000 and 450,000 kms over the next five years.

Electricity at the station is guaranteed to come from 100% renewable energy sources.

Energy Efficiency Indicators

Energy efficiency is when something delivers more output as services or production for the same energy input, or the same services or production for less energy input. For example, when a compact florescent light (CFL) bulb uses less energy than an incandescent bulb to produce the same amount of light, the CFL is considered to be more energy efficient. Energy efficiency indicators are useful for  policy makers to determine where energy savings can be made.
Economic and human activity, energy use and CO₂ emissions are determined by energy efficiency indicators. Many IEA member countries already employ energy indicators, a set of disaggregated measures of how energy is used. The IEA role is to assist and co-ordinate countries’ efforts through the maintenance of transparent international databases, the development of state-of-the-art energy indicators and collaboration with other international organisations.

The IEA has since 1997 developed a series of energy indicators to study energy-use developments and analyse factors behind changes in energy use and CO₂ emissions. Energy indicators (and the underlying databases) reveal key relationships between energy use, energy prices and economic activity. This insight is crucial when assessing and monitoring past and present energy policies, and for designing effective future action. This work on indicators also aims at increasing the transparency, quality, completeness and timeliness of energy-related data.

Industrial Electricity Rates Graph: India, China and the US

India has one of the highest industrial electricity rates in the world, exceeding those in the US, in most developing countries and in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), both in absolute terms and much more so on a PPP basis.24 This is largely to finance subsidies to low income households and agriculture. Electricity-intensive industries have responded by generating electricity themselves, but have also been forced to economize on electricity use, since all fuel prices have increased since the nineties.

750 MW JNNSM Phase-II, Batch-I

New grid connected Solar power projects under JNNSM Phase-II, Batch-I comes under Solar Energy Corporation of India. As part of JNNSM  Batch-I, proposals are invited by SECI and the process will be through issue of an "Request for Selection" (RFS). 750 MW of grid connected solar PV projects will be setting up for purchase of power for a period of 25 years.
 
SECI shall enter into Power purchase agreement (PPA) with successful bidders selected based on the RfS. The main aim and objective of the Mission is to put India as a global leader in solar energy, by creating the policy conditions for its large scale diffusion across the country as quickly as possible. The Mission has set a target, amongst others, for deployment of grid connected solar power capacity of 20,000 MW by 2022 to be achieved in 3 phases(first phase upto 2012-13, second phase from 2013 to 2017 and the third phase from 2017 to 2022)
.
The government’s vision of attaining the Mission targets are very strong and they have been very successful in Phase- I. Highly positive results of Phase-I implementation have laid a strong foundation for even better performance in the crucial Phase-II, wherein the JNNSM envisages cumulative installation of 10,000 MW utility scale and 1,000 MW off-grid solar power projects. In Phase-II, the government plans to install utility scale capacity of 3000 MW through the central scheme and the balance 6000 MW through various state schemes.
